Do you want to reinvent education and change the world?

Do you crave working hard with a small, mission-driven, world-class team of entrepreneurs and community members changing the vision of school?

We are looking for a guide for our brand-new school launching fall 2024. If your passion is to fuel the love of learning in others while advancing your own personal and professional growth, this is your chance to become a part of one of the world’s most innovative schools.

Odyssey

Founded in 2023, Odyssey is a private micro-school and learner-driven community with the mission that each person who enters its doors will find a calling and change the world. We combine elements of the Montessori method with Socratic guiding, hands-on experiential quests, and interactive technology. Underlying our method is an application of the hero’s journey creating a lively learning environment that feels more like an adventure than school.

At Acton, we have mixed-aged classrooms called "studios" with a self-paced learning design as opposed to grade-levels. Our real world-oriented quests culminate in a public exhibition of learning as opposed to test scores and report cards. In all areas of Acton life, our students are empowered to be in the driver’s seat of their learning.

This position is full time. You will work with learners ages 5-10. The studio will consist of 12-15 learners for our launch year.

We are looking for self-motivated, entrepreneurial individuals who are passionate about guiding children on their independent journey of lifelong learning, and who possess an understanding of the Hero’s Journey and the Socratic Method. Guides are not teachers in the traditional sense of the word. Guides are coaches and mentors. However, due to local policies a bachelor's degree is required for this position.

Don’t worry…we will teach you everything! Our Guides will learn to lead Socratic discussions and will learn how to work with the Acton Academy learning design, processes, and systems.

A guide’s ultimate goals are to equip, connect, and inspire. Successful guides equip learners to explore and take ownership of their learning, monitor progress on curriculum, and create life-oriented projects that nurture curiosity.

Qualities of an exceptional guide:

Loves children

Believes every child is a genius who can change the world

Empathetic, dedicated, and hard working

Creative and innovative in approach to education

Committed to being a lifelong learner and being a Socratic leader

If you are interested, we would love to hear from you!
